We’re the epicurean capital of Mexico, the equestrian capital as well, the 2nd largest wine district in Mexico, home to one of the largest art communities in the world, we boast five centuries of astounding architecture, and host an abundance of English-language social and cultural infrastructure unmatched anywhere else in Mexico
We host the world’s largest bilingual literary conference called the San Miguel Writer’s Conference, the world-renowned Guanajuato International Film Festival, the international Jazz & Blues Festival, Pro Musica’s annual half-year classical music program, the annual Festival de Música de Camara, the La Calaca annual festival for Dia de los Muertos, multiple theatrical playhouses, so many nightly music venues they have a dedicated web site, the occasional old-world Spanish bullfight, and over 450 restaurants on the San Miguel de Allende TripAdvisor list.
And if community involvement is important to you, we have over 120 nonprofit organizations in town, pick your favorite cause—education for girls, heath care for kids—and jump in! If just meeting the community is important, you won’t be a stranger long: the Organic Market doubles in size every Saturday and resembles a block party with dining at farmhouse tables, while the monthly art walk at the Fabrica Aurora sees a couple thousand of us locals meeting new and old friends.
